Renkli Stage
RenkliStage is not just your average theatre performance, but a vibrant and lively experience that combines music, dance, and comedy.
It takes the audience into this captivating world, on a journey through a vibrant street in North London.
The play, mostly in Turkish and written by former Enfield mayor Saray Karakus, is designed to be inclusive for everyone with English surtitles.
Through a “perfect blend” of comedy and drama, it delves into the challenges faced by migrants, exploring their experiences and shedding light on their struggles with cultural clashes and mental health.
It also focuses on the impact on children’s future, as many parents are unaware of the difficulties in their city and find it hard to effectively communicate with their children. In an unexpected twist, the street unintentionally becomes their caretaker.
This cycle of trauma is unfortunately passed down from one generation to the next. However, theatre has the power to break this cycle. By showcasing the perspectives of hard-to-reach communities, fostering understanding and empathy, and challenging prejudices, RenkliStage strives for a brighter and more inclusive future.
The play focused on a day in a street heavily populated by a community that had migrated from Turkey to London, exploring various important topics from cultural conflicts to the process of integration. It addressed the problems faced by both young and old, highlighting themes of loneliness and extravagant lifestyles. Additionally, while portraying a character who decided to end their life, as seen from the window of an apartment above a market, the play also depicted the success, earnings, and new beginnings of someone on the street.
